The last time a greatest hits album debuted at Number 1 on the charts, it was Toby Keith’s 35 Biggest Hits in 2008. So, when Carrie Underwood released Greatest Hits: Decade #1 on December 9th, the odds were certainly not in her favor. However, when it comes to Carrie, there must be something in the water because she defied all logic and marked her place in the newly adapted history books, claiming the Number 1 spot with her compilation discs of previous hits.
The collection is comprised of twenty-five songs, including the powerful Grammy nominated “Something in the Water,” as well as one more new track and several never-before-heard versions of past chart-toppers. Greatest Hits: Decade #1 sold 94,000 units in its first week, which is the highest selling debut for a hits project (across all genres) in over six years and the best selling debut by a female since 2005 — when Carrie broke the prior record with Some Hearts. Greatest Hits: Decade #1 also charted at Number 4 on the all-genre Billboard 200 Chart.
The quick rise to the top of the chart also gives Carrie her fifth consecutive Number 1 debut, sharing that honor with only one other female country artist — her “Something Bad” duet partner, Miranda Lambert.
