7 Reasons To Love Country Newcomer Cody Johnson

Texas native and independent country artist Cody Johnson has people talking all over Nashville. A new face in country music, he set the bar high for what other artist should be portraying. A rare commodity these days, Johnson’s music is a timeless effort to keep country music alive. His latest album Gotta Be Me was released on August 5th 2016 and it’s by far a country music masterpiece.  Here are seven reasons why you will immediately become a fan of this wrangler wearing, hell raising artist.

1. He wears a cowboy hat

Johnson prides himself on the expertise of the rodeo life. In fact, his song “The Only One I Know (Cowboy Life)” was written from experience. Johnson tends to sing about the raw and addictive side of the rodeo life. It’s a powerful, truthful ballad.

2. He is a real man but real men fall in love

Johnson has a little ditty titled “With You  I Am” and it packs a emotional punch. The drum kicks just right behind the intimate lyrics that displays his love for his partner. There once was a time when country music displayed true stories, written by people who lived those stories – and with this track, well, you get a glimpse into country music’s past qualities.

3. He is true to who he is

Johnson does not let music city define him, rather he brings an authentic touch to the city which has been missing for a good ten plus years or more. In his song “Gotta Be Me” he gives the bold message of authenticity.

4. He is a God fearing man

“I Can’t Even Walk” is a country man’s ode to Jesus. It’s a brilliantly written song that appeals to anyone who considers themselves religious. Johnson’s vocals are chilling and all mighty as they belt out the lyrics flawlessly.

5. He can admit to having a broken heart

Although the fighting and drinking songs are what seems to make a man strong – a heart break song gives a new meaning to manhood. “Every Scar Has A Story” gives detail to the moment Johnson found himself broken and bruised by a lover.

6. He can depict bro country stereotypes too

Johnson can be flirty and charming, which seems to be the trend in country music these days. However, “Grass Stains” is a far cry from what you may hear on the mainstream radio stations. Johnson leaves out the fireball metaphors and the bikini wearing country girls and trades them in for grass stains on blue jeans. It’s truly a gem of a tune.

7. He recently made New York Times playlist

Johnson just had a major highlight in his already huge career. He just made the New York Times playlist. It’s a mile marker for Johnson and well deserved. A rare talent, Johnson will continue to grow into a massive artist. It’s a prediction made with the up most confidence.
