Country in the Capital #DMV

Washington, DC may be the capital of the United States, but what most folks don’t know is that its also very popular for country music lovers. 98.7 WMZQ, DC’s local country radio station, just added Bobby Bones to its programming and they also host some of the biggest country concerts in the area. One of the many secrets of the DMV (DC, Maryland & Virginia) is that its local band scene is massive. After all, Maggie Rose started out here. Checking out a local band is a must if you are ever in the DC area, and I’m here to tell you what bands make this place just a little more country.

1. Sam Grow

With over 12,000 fans on his facebook page he is definitely one of Maryland’s finest. You can catch him all up and down the DMV area performing original songs. He is in the same category as Brantley Gilbert; as a matter of fact, they should start their own genre.

2. Ashley Forrest

Ah, it’s a hard, hard world out there for a country girl. With all the bro-country trends, the struggle is real for the sundress queens. However, Ashley Forrest is well-known and well-loved. With 4,500 Facebook followers she is one of the leading ladies in the DMV area. Did I mention she’s gorgeous? Well, see for yourself.

3. Richie Fields

Richie has been around a very long time. Hailing from Ocean City, MD he is a true Maryland boy. He packs every single place he plays. He has fans who follow him from venue to venue and he even takes them along on a bus to CMA Fest in Nashville each year. He performs songs such as Trace Adkins “Ala-Freakin-Bama” as well as original music. Richie Fields has over 10,341 followers when you combine his personal page and his fan page. He is definitely a force to be reckoned with.

4. Come Back Iris

Just a bunch of southern Maryland boys playing some amazing cover songs. No matter if they are a Chase Rice cover or a Luke Bryan cover, there’s one thing that’s certain…ladies LOVE them. Their energy is unstoppable and you are destined to have a good time with these boys.

5. Dean Crawford & The Dunns River Band

Their social media pages have over 10,000 followers and they continue to pack out bars all over the DMV area. They are unique and in demand. Lead singer, Dean Crawford, is also biracial which makes them stand out from the other bands you may see in the area. Dean brings something special to country music, his heart. No matter if he is singing Luke Bryan “Roller Coaster” or his original song titled “Daddy,” you can bet your ass he is giving it his all.

6. Sara Gray

Sara Gray

Sara Gray is young, beautiful and talented. She has opened for country music acts such as Miranda Lambert and Kellie Pickler. With a Facebook following of over 5,700 fans, she is one of DC’s leading country ladies.

7. Unwound


Country/rock trio on the rise, these guys continue to do big things. They are well-known in the eastern West Virginia area as well as parts of Maryland. Consisting of two males and one female, they bring a lot of personality and maybe even some bickering to the table. It’s a sure thing they will make you dance, laugh and sing along.
