Concert Review: Drew Baldridge St Jude Benefit Concert

Lucky Star Bar of Bartlett, IL was the host of the 8th annual Country Music Benefit for St. Jude on Saturday, April 30. Country star Drew Baldridge headlined, supported by Brass Buckle Band and Mason Rivers. All proceeds from this event went straight to St. Jude, and even the volunteers who ran the event did so out of sheer admiration and respect for the services that St. Jude provides.

After Mike Cozzi explained that they began this event eight years ago, in his young daughter’s memory after losing her battle with cancer, everyone was fired up and ready to spend their money on a good cause! Mason Rivers kicked off the night with an energetic set complete with a full band, including banjo and steel guitar. A few auctions were closed and the energy in the room escalated when Brass Buckle Band took the stage. Brass Buckle Band’s lead singer reminded me of Kenny Chesney in his earlier days, and their set reflected a Chesney-influenced mix of today’s country hits with a few throwbacks. Brass Buckle’s heart-pumping entry and every bit of their hyped up stage performance proved to be exactly what the crowd needed to get fully amped up for the big ticket items left in the auction, and finally, the headliner, Drew Baldridge.

Baldridge enthusiastically chugged on stage to his brand new song, “Train” while his band, and the crowd echoed along. Immediately, it was clear that Baldridge’s band is just as close off the stage as they are at show-time. They seem to genuinely enjoy each other’s presences, upping the vitality of the show. Every song was expertly choreographed, in a way that felt natural and personable, showing their dedication to performing an outstanding show.

One of the stand-out moments was when Baldridge hopped up on a platform box towards the end of his cover of “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” and busted out Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby Got Back.” Watch this clip!

Baldridge continuously conveyed his feelings of gratitude, “I’ve always dreamed of being on stage and people singing my songs back to me. This is my dream come true.” After spilling his heart, he called the event organizers up on stage and presented them with his $500 St. Jude donation.

Recently, Baldridge signed a record deal with Cold River Records, and his debut album is due to release on June 10. His hit single, “Dance With Ya” went to radio earlier this year, and this week, it entered into the Top 50 on the Mediabase Chart. As he performed “Dance With Ya” to close out his set, the crowd couldn’t be contained as they sang and danced their hearts out to the country-funk beat. Watch an exclusive clip below.

Drew Baldridge is every bit and piece of “the real deal.” His performances are addictive – from the way he turns cover songs into his own unique version, to his passion and excitement in his latest single, “Rebound,” and down to the synchronized dance-line with his band during his hit, “Dance With Ya.” With the aid of his band, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he claimed the title for Entertainer of the Year in the future.

St. Jude’s mission is to find cures for children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases through research and treatment. Not only do they provide treatment, but they provide housing, meals and more to the families of these sweet children. No family ever pays St. Jude for ANYTHING, so it is vital that this charity runs on donations and volunteers to keep it going. This benefit for St. Jude raised upwards of $20,000 cumulatively for the charity.
