Universal Music Group recording artist, Kelleigh Bannen, recently released her new single, “Smoke When I Drink,” a song that compares a man to the addictive habit of smoking. Though Bannen purports to be done with this walking, talking bad habit, it doesn’t keep her from stopping by the bar he frequents to catch a glimpse, knowing that she has a tendency to “smoke” when she drinks.
The music video is a sequence of black and white performance shots (with the occasional liquor shot) that appropriately matches the theme of a bar with its smoky cinematography. Bannen’s gritty vocals and fit-to-be-a-rocker persona complement the lyrics and style of the video seamlessly, creating a perfect production to supplement this new single.
The track itself shows off Bannen’s tongue-in-cheek side, complete with a boot-stomping vibe that will appease country music fans who appreciate a sassy songstress with a strong set of pipes who can provide an edgy ear worm for consumption. As we have long known about Bannen here at Country Music #CMchat, she is in a class of her own, setting new standards for herself and her peers, never disappointing with her cleverly crafted lyrics and memorable melodies.
“Smoke When I Drink” continues Bannen’s streak of providing such singles, even kicking it up a notch and sending a message to the industry that she’s here to stay and will keep releasing respectable and remarkable music.
