Right out the songwriting gate, it was obvious Mac McAnally had something special to share with the world. Considered a guitar and piano prodigy from the time he was a teenager, McAnally’s career grew wings at the age of twenty when he received his first record deal.

Immediately finding his way into the Billboard Hot 100, McAnally began to command respect and attention from some of the most renowned artists in the industry. Jimmy Buffett and Hank Williams, Jr. both cut McAnally songs, while Alabama took his song “Old Flame” to Number 1 in 1981. The song cemented his status as a hit maker, later earning him cuts by Reba McEntire, Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band, and Brad Paisley (to name a few).

Songwriting isn’t where the buck stops for McAnally. He has continued to practice his craft as a musician, building a catalog of credits that includes Toby Keith, Roy Orbison, George Strait, Amy Grant and many more. He also joined Buffett’s touring Coral Reefer band and continues to play to the delight of Parrotheads to this day. McAnally has also produced several of Buffett’s albums and written many of his songs.

Due to his extensive list of songs, affiliations, and achievements, McAnally was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2007. He has also received several awards throughout his impressive career, including six Country Music Association Awards for Musician of the Year. In fact, McAnally is the reigning CMA Musician of the Year and will be defending his title at this year’s awards show. McAnally has also been nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for “Down the Road.”
