North Carolina native Matt Stillwell grew up as an athlete, not a musician. However, he decided to chose music over baseball and well…that paid off. Matt Stillwell released his debut single “Shine” in the fall of 2008. It debuted at No. 25 on iTunes Country Chart and the video reached No. 5 on CMT Pure. He continues to grow his fan base and his talent.

What’s the first concert you’ve ever attended?
If you were stranded on a island and you could only have one album with you to listen to, whose album would you pick and why?

What’s the hardest life lesson you’ve learned?
That I can’t do everything.

Out of all the songs you’ve written, do you have a favorite?
“Hey Dad.” It came from such a bad spot, but it has helped me deal with the loss and has helped and is helping tons of people that have experienced loosing someone close to them.
Do you have a favorite place to perform?

I’m the ambassador for Badges For Baseball which is a program of the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation. They bring cops and at risk kids together through baseball at a young age. I’m bringing my baseball background (college) and music to the table to help facilitate and grow the program nationally. We will be in 50 markets next year (All 30 Major League stadiums and 20 Minor League stadiums) implementing the program.
How do you think songwriters play a vital role in music today?
Without new great songs, the industry will just die. Whether that’s helping an artist say what they need to say, or they are the artist. Creation is the most important part of the industry. Without it, it dies.
