The Highway Finds Tour Finale at Joe’s on Weed Street

For anyone in the pursuit of new music, one of the best platforms to hear upcoming artists is Sirius XM’s The Highway. The Highway hand-selected a few of their featured artists; Steve Moakler, Drew Baldridge, and Smithfield, to showcase on a 26-city tour throughout the United States, relevantly titled, the Highway Finds Tour. The tour began March 16, 2017, in Georgia, with the final night selling out the renowned Joe’s on Weed Street in Chicago, Illinois on May 20.

Smithfield’s acoustic set was not to be missed. Their vocals were flawless and strikingly fervent. From their original songs, like The Highway featured, “Hey Whiskey” to their covers, they had an “it factor” that couldn’t be repudiated. Notably, their tribute to 90’s music was a pleasantly surprising medley which included 90’s smash hits by Aerosmith, Shania Twain, and the Goo Goo Dolls, all in an original presentation that left the Smithfield mark stamped on their performance. As an Illinois native, it was special for Drew Baldridge to end the Highway Finds Tour in Chicago. If you have the chance to catch his concert, you’re going to witness a performance that goes above and beyond to deliver the music. It’s not only engaging, but even his band’s showmanship is impeccably choreographed. From his original songs, like “Love on Your Body” to his inclusion of Sir Mixalot’sBaby Got Back,” it’s clear that Baldridge is a super-charged force on stage that succeeds to “wow” his audience. Drew has had a few songs featured on The Highway, including “Rebound” which he sang live with Jennifer of Smithfield during the finale of the Highway Finds Tour.

Steve Moakler’s set was nothing short of incredible. He played some of the music from his album Steel Town, as well as his smash singles familiar from airplay on The Highway, and a few cover songs to keep the crowd engrossed. Because it was the finale, and Steve was the headliner of the Highway Finds Tour, he endured the prank – Smithfield and Drew Baldridge (and band) strolled on stage, mid “Suitcase” with baggage in tow to crash the set. Watch!

Within the first song of his set, it was evident that Moakler was tapping into his Pittsburgh roots and presenting a compilation of unfeigned music and character. Gaining much success as a songwriter, it was fitting for Moakler to perform his original version of a song he wrote for Dierks Bentley, “Riser” and the crowd sang it back louder than he could play. In closing, Drew Baldridge and Smithfield returned to the stage to join Steve Moakler in a star-studded cover collaboration of Fleetwood Mac’sGo Your Own Way.” What a way to wrap up a successful tour!

An undeniably notable factor of this tour was that all three artists, though all considered “country” each brought unique musical elements and personal touches to the stage, making for a concert with a little bit of everything for a diverse crowd. It was altogether one of the most exciting and vivacious concerts I’ve attended thus far in 2017. I would highly recommend seeing each of these artists and look forward to more tours created by Sirius XM’s The Highway.
